When it comes to shopping, there are multiple payment and financing options available at different merchant locations. While some shoppers prefer to use their credit or debit cards for their purchases, some use mobile money transfer options, such as PayPal.

The latest trend in e-commerce and in-store shopping is the buy now and pay later (BNPL) payment solution that retailers offer to their customers. Among the several options of budgeting and installment financing available to Canadians is the Sezzle Canada platform.

With Sezzle, you can shop at participating retail outlets and split your payments into four convenient installments. The best part of this service is that you don’t pay any interest, nor does it affect your credit score. With its growing list of merchants and brands in several categories, Canadians are provided with a high purchasing power and multiple options to shop for items at their favourite store.

Here’s how the Sezzle Canada platform and service works and its implication on Canadian consumers and retailers.

About Sezzle Canada

Sezzle Canada is a fintech company providing payment solutions to Canadian shoppers and merchants. The buy now, pay later service company increases consumers’ financial empowerment and purchasing power by providing interest-free and convenient payment plans for their online and in-store purchases. The rapidly growing budgeting service company enables consumers to shop at their favourite retail stores and pay for their purchases in regular bi-weekly installments.

The Toronto-based payment solution company came into the Canadian marketplace in June 2019. Sezzle became known to Canadian merchants and shoppers as an alternative payment solution that allows shoppers to split their purchases into installments with no interest charges.

Sezzle Inc., the Minneapolis-based parent company in the USA, is one of the top USA buys now, pay later service companies with tons of partner merchants using its payment solutions.

How Sezzle Canada Works

Sezzle is available to Canadian shoppers and retailers. Canadian consumers can use the platform to pay for items at participating merchants online and in-store. With this arrangement, you can conveniently shop for items that would usually seem pricey for a one-time payment.

With Sezzle, you can shop for the items you crave and pay for your purchases in four installments at zero interest charges. At checkout, you’re required to pay the first installment or down-payment to complete your order. Over the following six weeks, the company expects you to pay the remaining three installments every two weeks to complete the repayment for your purchases. If you default in the payments, Sezzle will block you from using its services on all its retail partners until you pay off your debts. Late payment also attracts penalty fees.

For instance, if you shop for items worth CAD300 at a participating merchant store and choose Sezzle as your payment option, the company will pay the full amount to the retailer. Sezzle will also split your entire order into four equal interest-free payments, payable bi-weekly over six weeks. As a result, you’re required to pay 25% of the purchase before you can complete the order. After that, you’ll pay 25% each, every two weeks over six weeks.

Sezzle Canada partners with over one thousand e-commerce and in-store merchants in different categories across Canada. With this partnership, participating retailers also enjoy an increase in sales and demand for their products. For the convenience of consumers, Sezzle Canada lists and categorizes its partner merchants on its website.

How to Use Sezzle

Regardless of how you intend to use Sezzle for payments, registering with the platform to get approval for your payment is required. The best part about this loan/budgeting service is that the company does not require a hard check on your credit score.

Once you’re approved, you can proceed to complete your order and pay the first installment. Before the payment date for the remaining three installments, the company will also send a reminder. Interestingly, you can reschedule your Sezzle installment payment and avoid late payment fees.

To use Sezzle Canada for your next purchase and take advantage of the interest-free installment payment option, follow these steps:

Step 1: Shop and add items to your cart at tons of participating retail stores.

Step 2: Proceed to checkout and select Sezzle as your payment option.

Step 3: You’ll be redirected to Sezzle to log in or sign up and get approval for your purchases.

Step 4: Complete the order by paying your first installment of 25% of the total purchase value. The company will split your payment into four equal interest-free payments over six weeks.
